ACTIVATE AT CERP

Welcome to “Activate at CERP,” a pioneering pre-college summer program designed for high school students with a keen interest in the development sector. Hosted by the Centre for Economic Research in Pakistan (CERP) in Lahore, this highly selective five-week program offers an unparalleled opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and immerse themselves in Pakistan’s rich cultural and developmental landscape.

This partnership leverages Eye on Ivy’s expertise in educational guidance and CERP’s commitment to social impact, creating a unique platform for students to gain hands-on experience and develop critical skills in a real-world context. Together, we aim to inspire the next generation of global citizens by providing them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.

CERP has made a significant impact through its rigorous research and data-driven approach, aiming to improve decision-making across various sectors in Pakistan. With over 40 active projects and a diverse team of more than 300 members, including academic research fellows, CERP collaborates with prominent funding organizations like the World Bank and UNDP to drive high-impact reforms. Their outreach extends globally, engaging with the Pakistani diaspora and high school students worldwide, providing them with experiential learning opportunities that deepen their understanding of development challenges and foster a culture of evidence-based policy-making. "Activate at CERP" has two main components

Capacity Building

The program begins with a week-long series of ongoing skills development courses, which include:

Technical Skills:

Data Science & Software: Participants will enhance their skills in data science and data-driven decision-making, learning new software and performing data-related tasks.

Power Skills:

Professional & Personal Development: This course focuses on essential skills for long-term success, including workplace ethics, etiquette, career management, effective communication, and negotiation techniques.

Placement to CERP Projects

Following the skills development phase, participants will be matched to specific verticals or research projects at CERP based on their skills, interests, and project requirements. This placement allows for hands-on field exposure and experience in the outskirts of Lahore, subject to government approvals for conducting field research. Participants will also be assigned a capstone project, which may include literature reviews, case studies, policy briefs, data collection and cleaning, and statistical analysis. This project culminates in a presentation to a panel of experts, allowing participants to apply the skills they have learned in a real-world context.

Overall, the program structure is designed to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, preparing them for future careers in the development sector.
