Quill and Scroll Editorial Contest Winners: Honoring the Best in Student Journalism Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists in collaboration with Academic Quests is pleased to announce the winners of its prestigious Editorial Contest 2024. After thoughtful deliberation and thorough examination, judges of the Honorary Society selected the top entries from a talented pool of students. These exceptional writers have demonstrated outstanding skill, creativity, and dedication to the craft of editorial writing. The editorial topic for this year was “With the recent explosion of Artificial Intelligence technology, teens need to further validate the information they receive on social media platforms for their news. What steps should teens take to ensure what they see is real? How can they counter fabricated news and disinformation in both their feeds and in talking with peers?” The students who secured top positions gave compelling arguments, strong evidence and effective recommendations. Students in both the class categories wrote exceptional essays. In Class A (grade 9 – 10) category the winners were: Muhammad Faisal Imran, 1st position, Sahibzada Muhammad Ali, 2nd position, both students are from Learning Alliance Aziz Avenue and Hassan Raza, 3rd position, is from Learning Alliance DHA. Syeda Hadiya from Learning Alliance DHA was awarded Honorable mention. In Class B (grade 11 – 12) category the winners were: Zaina Aslam from Learning Alliance International, secured 1st position, Wareesha Sial from First Steps School of Arts and Sciences, got 2nd position and Aiza Merchant from Learning Alliance International secured 3rd position. While Hooriyah Ahmad from Learning Alliance International was given Honorable Mention. The Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists was started on April 10, 1926, at the University of Iowa by renowned pollster George H. Gallup. The Honorary Society initiated the Quill & Scroll Editorial Contest that focuses on journalistic and scholastic publications. This competition fosters research, reading, writing and analytical skills. The contest is judged by professional American journalists. Top ranking students are eligible for scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500. Academic Quests is proud to partner with Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists in order to bring the international contests to Pakistan to help develop critical and creative thinking of the students. Academic Quests offers students transformative educational experiences through collaborations with top universities like Harvard and Oxford, as well as international contests with globally ranked organizations. The students who have been given Honorable Mention award are as follows: Enaya Ali, Faiz Murtaza, Mohammad Talha, Nusaybah Nawaz, Ali Mir, Mishaal Baig, Rameen Kashif and Shahmir Khan from Headstart School, Kuri Campus. The challenge for this year was Generative AI and the problem to be solved was: how will the emerging uses of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) impact how we work, live, play, and learn? It was a two weeks’ challenge were students from grade 5-9 worked in teams and researched the given challenge, applied the 6 steps problem solving process of FPS to come up with various solutions and an action plan.  Academic Quests is proud to partner with Future Problem Solving Program International in order to bring the international competitions to Pakistan and to develop the ability of young people globally to design and achieve positive futures through problem solving using critical and creative thinking. Global Recognition and Endless Possibilities: Teeneagle Announces Winners Pakistani students soar high in the prestigious global competition of TeenEagle. Serena Sikandar Minhas from Learning Alliance International, Lahore, has secured first position in the world and has brought immense pride and joy for the nation. On achieving this remarkable feat, Serena Sikandar has been awarded full scholarship to participate in the global finals to be held in Thailand next year. Other students who have received gold medals are Ehsham Yasir, from Bloomfield Hall School and Keyaan Nasir. Students who have been awarded silver and bronze medals are Ayra Jamal, from Future World School and Hooriyah Salman from Learning Alliance International, respectively. TeenEagle Competition is accredited and certified by Brooke House College. This competition encourages students to become keen readers and observers. It inspires young minds to unlock their potential in English Language. The contest is open for students aged between 8 to 18 years. All the study resources and preparation material are provided to the students online. Students have to qualify the online round to be eligible for the global finals. The winners at Global Finals get 10% discount on first year’s tuition fee in over 60 universities in UK. Top performing students receive gold, silver and bronze medals along with certificates. The Global Final Rounds are going to take place in some of the world’s most unique and multicultural cities such as Thailand, London and New York. These finals are spread over seven days, packed full with competitions, trips to local attractions, and many festivities. Alumni Success – Veritas AI

Alumni Success Veritas AI’s college application results have been analyzed over the past 2 years by running a survey amongst alumni to understand how they fare in the college admissions process compared to the typical or average admissions rates. At top 20 universities for the class of 2023 and 2024, Veritas AI students had on average 2-3 x higher acceptance rates compared to the average applicant! Veritas AI alumni all have rigorous coursework, additional extracurriculars, and a whole human and story that goes into their application. All of these things, especially that whole human and story you share with admissions officers, are going to be key to your success in the college application process! Student Spotlight: This month, Veritas AI had one student accepted to publication at Curieux Academic Journal, three students accepted to National High School Journal of Science, and one student accepted to International Journal of High School Research.

Congratulations to our Class of 2024 on gaining admission to many wonderful colleges this year! These Spike Lab seniors have worked hard over the past couple of years to launch Spikes, aka passion-based ventures with real-world impact. A Spike is a rare and authentic accomplishment among teenagers, which is why Spike Lab students often gain admissions to a number of the top and best-fit undergraduate programs. This spring, we celebrate our Spike Founders’ results and some notable Spikes. Class of 2024 Admissions Statistics We are grateful for the opportunity to support our students and humbled by their successes, especially in light of colleges of many colleges staying at or around historic lows (Vanderbilt and Duke both hit 5% this year, while most Ivies were below even that), and others reaching new lows (Northeastern, BU, USC, Tufts, NYU, and others had regular decision rates around 5-10%!). Custom Playlists for Patients with Alzheimers Neuroscience and Music Music has been proven to have a positive impact on memory, particularly for Alzheimer’s patients. This Spike Founder created playlists tailored to Alzheimer’s patients to support their memory, and partnered with caregiving organizations and memory care administrators to deploy it. A Film “Passport” Website Film and Travel A database of movies from various foreign countries to help people learn about other cultures and “travel” through film. Accountability Groups for Habit Formation Psychology and Mental Health A regular accountability group grounded in habit formation science to support high schoolers on building positive daily routines for organization, sleep hygiene, stretching, and more. Children’s Book on Local Economic Development through Agriculture Writing, Agriculture, and Economics This Spike Founder wrote a kid’s book for their struggling hometown, meant to help foster kids with a sense of community involvement and a better understanding of the forces that shape a town’s economic future. They got their book into several major bookstores. Natural Pools Project Biology and Swimming This Spike Founder became an expert on natural pool systems, creating a media ecosystem around it that included interviews with major companies in the space. Journaling Group for LGBTQ+ Students Writing and Mental Health A group to support LGBTQ+ students through the process of journaling. Musical Relaxation Installations Music and Mental Health Site specific pop-up music performances to support student mental health and relaxation during stressful periods of the school year. Chemistry and Classics Program Chemistry, Classics, and Education Workshops to help kids get excited about the combination of chemistry and classics through project-based learning activities. Join our Spike Coaching Program Each Spike Founder in our Class of 2024 has succeeded in going above and beyond by paving their own solutions to issues in their communities. Each Spike is deeply connected to the respective Spike Founder’s origin story and personal background.
